Overview

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek (ABC Trek) is one of the most scenic trekking routes in the Annapurna Himalayan range of Nepal. This trek takes you through breathtaking landscapes, snow-covered peaks, and diverse natural beauty, offering an unforgettable Himalayan experience. Mt. Annapurna I (8,091 m), the world’s 10th highest mountain, along with many other majestic peaks, can be seen throughout the journey in northwestern Nepal.

One of the major highlights of the trek is the early morning hike to Poon Hill, where trekkers can witness a spectacular sunrise over the Himalayas. During the trek, you can leave your luggage at Ghorepani before ascending Poon Hill, which offers one of the most iconic sunrise views in the region.

The Annapurna massif includes several stunning peaks such as Annapurna I, Annapurna III (7,555 m), Annapurna IV (7,525 m), Gangapurna (7,455 m), and the famous Annapurna South (7,219 m). The sacred Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) peak also dominates the skyline throughout the route.

Throughout the journey, trekkers pass through beautiful valleys, dense rhododendron and juniper forests, deep river gorges, and terraced farmlands. The region is also rich in cultural diversity, inhabited mainly by Gurung and Magar communities, along with Brahmin and Chhetri settlements in lower areas. These communities are known for their warm hospitality and historic connection to the Gurkha regiments.

The Annapurna region is one of the most popular trekking destinations in Nepal, attracting thousands of trekkers each year due to its accessibility and stunning scenery.

According to Hindu mythology, Annapurna is known as “Ma Annapurna,” meaning “the goddess of food and nourishment.” Standing at the base of Mt. Annapurna I with 360-degree Himalayan views is a truly unforgettable experience that leaves a lasting impression on every trekker.
